Like every fresh graduate, after completing his National Youth Service, Shola was filled with hope and ambition of finding employment and beginning the next chapter of his life as a productive member of society and taking care of himself and his parents.
2-years passed and nothing.
All dreams abandon. All hope faded.
Another unemployed youth added to the statistics. Shola was at the point where he was prepared to do anything to ease the burden of poverty on himself and parents.
He heard about the Change Nigeria Project from a friend and submitted his CV and applied for 12-months fully-funded Agricultural Economist Apprenticeship placement; due to start in December 2016.
After meeting all the requirements, Shola was invited for an interview with the employer; things seemed to be looking up. Shola then shone in his interview and received the good news of being award the placement the following day.
Shola is one of the first young people we helped through the charity. His transformation on his journey from 'jobseeker-to-apprentice' is exactly the impact we hope to make in our young people. Shola took advantage of every opportunity to learn and improve his skills. And in July 2017, Shola was confident enough to apply for a vacancy outside of the apprenticeship and got it! ``I couldn't be prouder``
Shola, continues to work in the Agribusiness sector and at every opportunity continues to thank the Change Nigeria Project.
